What is “clean” water?
There is no single answer, as each application has its own specifications. Each batch of water has its own unique composition and contains various salts, metals, impurities and relative volatility. The question should be “What degree of purity is required for what application?”
In sterilization and disinfection, the purity of the incoming water can make a big difference in the overall operating economy of your equipment – and even in the quality of the results! In a sterilizer, water moves from the liquid phase to the steam phase, other substances are concentrated and precipitate, causing breakdowns, higher operating costs, and in the worst cases contaminated steam.
The solution to these problems is to feed the sterilizer with water that has been purified from salts, metals and impurities. An excellent, cost-effective way to achieve this purification is by means of reverse osmosis (RO), which separates the incoming water into “clean” water and reject water via a reverse osmosis membrane. The RO-water is > 99% pure water with no additional components. The reverse osmosis membrane is sensitive to free chlorine, excessive hardness, metals, organic and inorganic compounds. To assure the good operating economy and high availability of the reverse osmosis unit, the feed water must be pretreated.
Free chlorine is reduced by means of an active carbon filter. Water hardness salts are reduced with a water-softening filter (Princess Midi E). If there are water hardness salts and iron in the water, a Princess Turbo-E watersoftening filter should be used.
Water treatment selection guide
In order to receive feed water and condensate in accordance with EN-285, a general selection guide is presented below.
It is important to note that this is a general guide. Raw water quality must be verified by water analysis in accordance with EN285, free chlorine content.
1. RECIEVE FEED WATER IN ACCORD ANCE WITH EN -285
To receive feed water (RO-water) for steam generators, RO-51 may be used (degassing tank needed).
2. PRE-TREATMENT FOR REVERSE OSMOSIS
To obtain optimal working conditions and economical service on the RO-51 unit, pre-treatment of incoming water is recommended.
Pre-filter for reduction of free chlorine in connection with reverse osmosis RO-51. Filter housing made entirely of corrosion-resistant PP plastic, equipped with a vent valve. 5-micron active carbon cartridge, 10”. The cartridge should be manually replaced before the pressure drop exceeds 1.5 bar. Cartridge removal requires 100 mm of free space below the filter.

WATER SOFTNER PRINCESS MIDI-E
Compact, fully automatic, high-grade water softener for free-standing installation, with built-in salt container. The water softener is made entirely of corrosion-resistant ABS plastic with an attractive external surface. The polystyrene type ion-exchanger is flushed and regenerated automatically.

WATER SOFTNER PRINCESS TURBO-E
Compact, fully automatic, high-grade water softener with percolator for efficient iron removal. Free-standing installation, with built-in salt container. The water softener is made entirely of corrosion-resistant ABS plastic with an attractive external surface. The polystyrene type ion-exchanger is flushed and regenerated automatically.
25 kg salt tablets included in delivery.
A reverse osmosis technique that reduces the amount of dissolved salts by up to 99%. The compact, space-saving unit has everything in one cabinet. Delivered completely preassembled and tested at the factory for fast, easy installation.
Depending on the quality of the raw water, additional pre-treatment may be necessary.
